You can search for a permit and view the status and additional information by clicking on the search button below.

Welcome to the MyPermits plans and documents upload portal.

First-time users of this system will need to establish an account through the "Sign In" hyperlink located at the top right of the MyPermits Home page.  Once logged into the system you can upload files to your permit.

  • All upload files must be Adobe PDF file format or JPEG pictures.
  • Use only letters and numbers in the file name - special characters cause problems.
  • File size limit is 50MB

You can view currently scheduled inspections or request an inspection on an existing permit by clicking on one of the buttons below.
Apply Online

This is where you can apply online for a RESIDENTIAL ONLY Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, and Re-roof permit.  Residential permits that do not require plan review may be applied and paid for with your MasterCard or VISA.   (See “How to Apply” for more information)

 Effective January 1, 2020 there will be a 3.5% service fee on all credit card transactions.

Who can apply?

You must be either the property owner, an agent of the owner, or a Washington State licensed contractor.  In the case of an electrical permit the licensed contractor must be a licensed electrical contractor.

Types of permits available to be applied for online

Only residential, single-family, two-family dwellings and townhouse permits which are listed below are available online. These would include new construction, remodel, addition and repair or replacement. All other permits must be applied for at the Building Department.

  3. Electrical
  4. Re-roof

All work is subject to field inspections by the City of Des Moines inspectors.

How to apply online for a permit

  1. First time users must create an online account before you can log-in. (see the link to register at the top of the page)
  2. Log-in and follow the prompts to fill in the required information on the application.
  3. Use your MasterCard or Visa to process and provide payment.
  4. Submit your application (this emails the application to City staff for a quick review).
  5. Watch for a return email letting you know that your application has been approved.
  6. Print a copy of your permit to have onsite and available for inspections.
